The Space Rocket Monument depicts a genuine R-7 Rocket known as Semyorka." With a height of 68 meters (223 feet) and a weight of 20 tons (over 44 092 pounds), the rocket was originally produced by the city plant Progress in 1984 with the intent to become the prototype training rocket for the battle crew at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome.

In 1999, the rocket, no longer being useful for military purposes, was presented to the Progress Community Centre. The rocket had all of its technical equipment removed and was transformed into a model. The grand opening of the monument was held on October 1st, 2001. The monument consists of the rocket itself, the holding construction and a futuristic metallic building.

In 2007, the museum Aerospace Samara was established to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the Samara aerospace engineering industry. During the first year of its existence, the museum became one of the winners of the Tourist Brand of the Samara Region contest.

Being extremely popular with tourists from all over the world, the museum puts on exhibitions in English and German for all those who are interested.
